The Washington Times will host the 8th Citizens Forum on Saturday, October 14, 2006.  The Topic is "The root causes of the rising AIDS trend in Washington, D.C.:  How do we educate our community to take responsible action while developing effective social services?"  ULTRA Teen Choice STAR Guide (Intern) Simi Akinwande will participate as a panelist.   Admission is free.  Please come and help support increased awareness of the need to promote abstinence from sex among our youth to solve this critical problem of HIV/AIDS infection here in Washington, DC. 
The location is the Washington Times building, 3600 New York Ave. NE, Washington, DC  20002 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 14.The Washington Times - Brighter. Bolder.

Click for larger picture		     In August, Co-founders Richard & Stacey Urban traveled to the Houston, Texas area, where their daughter Sarah is attending college.  They gave a training seminar to 15 youth and adults at the Houston True Family Education center on August 3rd.  One teen participant, Sarah L. shared "I think we should work together..and reach out to the community, sharing the ULTRA Teen material".  

Click for larger picture		     On August 12, ULTRA Teen Choice participated in the Girls & Boys Town Friends & Family Day with a display booth.  ULTRA has been providing education and peer counseling to youth living at Girls and Boys Town in northeast Washington, DC.  We spread the word about the work of ULTRA Teen Choice, and about Marriage Development and Individual Development Accounts available for DC residents that provide 3 to 1 matching for savings of participants.

Click for larger picture		     ULTRA Teen Choice has been funded by a grant through the DC Metropolitan Healthy Marriage and Relationships Coalition to provide abstinence and healthy relationship education to youth attending the New Community for Children after school program in the Shaw area of Washington, DC.  A team of four STAR (Students Teaching Abstinence & Responsibility) Guides from Howard University lead each session.  Eight other Star Guides are leading education sessions and ULTRA Teen Choice Service Club meetings at Kramer Middle school in Ward 8 of southeast Washington, DC, and Stuart-Hobson Middle School in Ward 6 of northeast Washington DC.  
   On September 9th, ULTRA Teen Choice helped man the Together is Better table at the Black Family Reunion on the National Mall.  Together is Better is the DC campaign to strengthen families, marriages, and communities. (www.togetherisbetter.org).

Click for larger picture		    ULTRA Teen Choice just graduated from the Mayor's Office of Partnerships and Grants Development Strengthening Partners Initiative (SPI) on September 27.  SPI is a year long series of classes the aims to help developing nonprofits to build capacity in areas such as board development, fundraising, human resources, and marketing.  Each participant also receives a mentor form the nonprofit sector.  ULTRA was fortunate to receive excellent advice from its mentor to help it move to the next level of development.
